Our trained, professional counselors provide a safe, nonjudgmental place for you and your family to sort through your thoughts and feelings as well as to plan for the future.
What Your Child May Be Feeling
Most teens don’t plan on becoming pregnant, and they are often terrified when it happens. Some teens might keep the news of their pregnancies secret because they fear the anger and disappointment of their parents.
Pregnant teens need the support of their parents. Teen boys who are going to become fathers may feel frightened and guilty. They also need the support and encouragement of their parents to help them through this time.
Open communication will be extremely helpful as your teen begins to consider the future. There is no “one size fits all” solution.
Preparing for New Responsibilities
If your teen decides to give birth, many practical issues must now be considered. The Center for Youth & Family Solutions Crisis Pregnancy Counselors are here to help your teen consider her pregnancy options.
Will your teen raise her baby or consider adoption? If she parents, what supports will she need? How will she continue to go to school? Will the birth father be involved in the child’s life? Who will be financially responsible for the baby? What will your role be in your child’s and grandchild’s life?
The answers to these questions often depend on the support your teen receives.
As a parent, you can have a great impact on your teen’s life and on these decisions. You wish she had made different choices, but by supporting her, making sure she gets good prenatal care, and listening as she shares her fears and anxieties, you will be able to assist her in making the best decision for her baby and herself.
